Routine blood tests, blood sugar (HbA1c), urine culture and a fitness check for anaesthesia. Any urinary or skin infection is treated before surgery is scheduled.
The implant is placed under spinal or general anaesthesia through a small incision. The operation usually takes 1–2 hours, and antibiotics are given to lower infection risk.
Most patients stay 1–3 nights. A urinary catheter may be used for the first day, and pain is managed with oral medication.
