Most patients experience swelling and soreness for a couple of weeks, and return to desk-based work within 7-10 days. Strenuous activity and exercise are typically avoided for 4-6 weeks. Scars fade significantly over 12-18 months and are usually placed to be hidden under bras and swimwear.
As with any surgical procedure: swelling, bruising, temporary numbness, changes in nipple sensation, infection risk, and permanent (though fading) scarring.
